Monday 17th June
It is hard to believe that we are almost at the end of the academic year and what a busy year it has been. Our children have worked really hard this year and I'm sure they are looking forward to a much needed rest as they prepare for their new school year, whether that be with their current teacher, new teacher or as they move to their new school. We wish them all the best and every success.
I would just like to remind you of a few dates in your diary before we break up, particularly the INSET days that are planned for the next school year that are included on this newsletter.
Our last INSET of the school year is Monday 16th July.
We will also be holding an Information Evening on Tuesday 17th July to look at your children's books and have an informal chat with your child's class teacher. Our Year 5 & 6 performance will be on Wednesday 18th July at 2pm and Thursday 19th July at 6pm.
Our end of year service will be on Monday 23rd July, get your tissues ready!
Breakfast Club & After School Club
If you require breakfast and afterschool club places in September could you please book your sessions before the end of term, if possible, in order to prepare for the new school year.
Information regarding the clubs is available from the school office.
Please remember the dedicated phone number for breakfast and afterschool club is 07483 102617.
Could we also ask that the staff car park is not used for drop off and collection for the clubs as there have been a number of near misses with delivery vehicles and staff cars. As always we are trying to ensure the safety of everyone.
Many thanks for your cooperation.

SPORTING TRIUMPHS 2017/18 -Mr Wathall
What a fantastic year of sporting success for such a small school. Well done to everyone who has taken part. I would like to personally thank our incredible children for their superb attitudes and commitment throughout the year and also give a huge thank you to all our parents for their tremendous and continued support making all our achievements possible. This really is much appreciated.
George Abbott Shield (County Cup) Winners - Football
Congratulations to our school football team for winning the George Abbott Shield, beating Sutton on Trent Primary School 5-2 in an excellent final. First half goals from Vinny and Max 2, gave us a great start. Max completed his hat trick just after the break before Sutton pulled 2 goals back. Aaron made two magnificent saves to keep us in it and then Vinny put the game beyond Sutton with his second goal of the match just before the final whistle. Joseph, Isaac and Scarlett were superb in defence and Alex and Elicia outstanding on the wings. Well done all!!
Newark & Sherwood District Finals Winners - Boccia
A fantastic achievement by our boccia teams in the Newark & Sherwood finals, with one team winning the gold medal and the other finishing in bronze medal position. This is a particular
triumph for Adam and Gabriel who won the same competition last year, proving what incredible players they are. They were joined by Dylan this year and they played brilliantly as a team. Our ther team of Amy, Christopher and Oliver RS won the 3rd and 4th team play -off game to win the bronze medals making us all so proud of them.
Dukeries Tournament Winners - Girls Futsal
Our girls' football team won the Dukeries Futsal Tournament without actually conceding a goal. This was a fantastic performance by our keeper Dana, who was excellent throughout. Elicia and Scarlett used their experience of the school football team to great use scoring the bulk of our goals. Well done girls!
Other successes :
Dukeries Family Festival Joint Winners - Sports Hall Athletics Years 5 & 6
Dukeries Tournament Winners - Tag Rugby
Newark & Sherwood District Winners - Handball
Dukeries Family Festival KS1 Winners - Cross Country
If any parents would like to come in and listen to children read in the new school year please speak with your child's class teacher.
A note from Friends of St Mary's
Friends would like to say a very BIG thank you to everyone involved in our events this term. The Summer Fair was a great success. It was lovely to see so many parents and grandparents staying after Sports Day and supporting our wonderful school. The year 6 pupils who helped with the stalls were absolute stars!
The combined total for the Summer Fair and refreshments at FS1 Sports day... £601.97!
This makes our grand total from fundraising events since January £1517.97! A fabulous figure!
Money raised has so far funded the Year 6 leavers' Hoodies and will hopefully go towards a special Christmas treat for all pupils to enjoy! Funds will also go towards improving the school's outdoor space.
Preliminary plans include a garden room and a forest school area.
Sincere thanks to everyone who has supported us. We have lots of exciting events planned for the next academic year.
Please do join us for our final family event 'St Mary's Got Talent' on Tuesday 24th July at 6pm, you are welcome to bring a picnic, chairs, blankets etc. The friends group will be providing a BBQ of sausages and burgers. BIG thank you to Toby & Buddie Roberts' grandfather for this. If you wish to purchase they will be £1.50 each.
We wish you all a safe and enjoyable Summer Break - see you all in September.
To our Year 6s all the very best as they move onto their next chapter. And last but by no means least we wish our wonderful Miss Stevenson GOOD LUCK in her new job!
