May 2018 Newsletter

So in only the 16 weeks that Mrs Coupe has been at St Mary's she has had a super busy time across the two schools, with both being visited by Ofsted during the Spring Term, followed by a Siams inspection last week at Kneesall CofE Primary.  You could say Mrs Coupe has been a little busy!

That aside we also have lots of exciting things planned for the term ahead, hard to believe we are in the Summer Term, just hope Summer is going to arrive sometime soon now!

Our Year 6 children are planning for their SATs, we know that all our children will do their best.

Class 4 are off on their residential on the 22 May, I'm sure they will have a great time enjoying all the fun activities planned.  Lets hope the sun shines for them!

Stay & Play continues to be well supported in Mrs Bee's class on a Thursday morning as does the maths session that Mrs Sambrook is doing on a Tuesday morning.

I know Friends of St Mary's are busy planning for events so please do attend the next meeting on Tuesday 8th May at 6pm in school.  Everyone welcome

Yr3 & 4 Sports Hall Athletic District Finals

A fantastic performance from our SHA team at Joseph Whitaker School in the district finals saw us narrowly miss out on a medal by a meagre 3 points in the final standings. After qualifying as runners up in our heat we knew the competition was going to be very strong with the other schools in attendance being winners in their own right. And taking into account we had two girls from class 2 as late replacements, it made this achievement even more amazing.  Extra special mentions go to Maria and Edie who stepped in and performed superbly well in all of their events and relays showing what great strength in depth we have in our small school.

Also a big thank you to our parent supporters, who came along to watch and were certainly impressed and thoroughly entertained.

Dukeries Cross Country

Congratulations to our fantastic cross country runners who finished first in the KS1 category and 4th in KS2 at the recent Dukeries event. Six schools took part making the competition very strong and in many cases very close. Well done to the runners that ran in an age group above too. This is never easy, but was embraced by our children once again showing great attitudes and a willingness to achieve.

In KS1 we came out on top and actually won 3 out of the 4 races along with the relay, demonstrating our strength and superb teamwork skills.

Thanks again to all the parents that helped with transport and supported the children at this event, it is most welcome and much appreciated.

Girls Football Tournament at Mansfield Town Football Club

Our girls played fantastically well at the recent tournament held at MTFC's One Call Stadium. In the round robin format, we played each school once and boasted  the proud record of winning 4 games, drawing one and losing only one game. That game was by a single goal and the 1-0 scoreline reflected our superb defensive performances, as this proved to be the only goal we actually conceded in the entire tournament. Well done to goalkeeper Dana and her defenders Scarlett Olivia and Charlie. Elicia finished with 9 goals, Scarlett and Jessica 1 each all ably supported by Poppy and Abigail.

Samuel Barlow and Blidworth Oaks tied at the top on 14 points and we were a very close third just one point behind on 13 points.

An excellent effort from all of our girls. Good luck in the forthcoming futsal tournament.

Golf Afterschool Club

Our golf club at Rufford Park Golf Centre continues to evolve and the children have raised their game again by starting a brand new venture. The Junior Golf Passport Programme is a new initiative that covers all aspects of golf from skills within the game like putting, chipping and driving to etiquette and life skills like rules and honesty. This information can all be recorded both by the children themselves in their very own passport and by the PGA Professional Richard Beastall online.

By having their own individual login parents can monitor their child's progress online and see exactly what sessions their child has done each week. An exciting new concept, this will run through the summer months and will incorporate putting green work, driving range work and opportunities to go out onto the actual course, hopefully inspiring the next generation of top golfers.

Western Power have been in contact with school, from the week beginning Monday 14th May until Friday 1st June they will be doing some essential work on the sub station at the top of the school drive.

They are going to try and avoid school drop off and pick up times but to try and ease the congestion can parents be aware and avoid parking on Paddock close during this time if possible please as there will also be work vans and lorry's whilst the maintenance is carried out.

The pathway near the sub-station will also be dug up and out of use during this time.

Parents can use the car park on Forest Corner as normal for pick and drop offs.

Thank you for your understanding whilst this work is carried out.

Communication between school and home

We are very pleased with the transfer to Parentmail, which seems to be a positive move forward.  All letters will continue to be sent this way but paper copies are available from the office should you require one.  If any parents require help to register please let the office know.

Please ensure we have your most up to date mobile numbers and email addresses.

Some of you will have noticed that our Facebook page is also now live, another tool of communication between school and home although this is still in the early days, we hope that this will also prove to be a positive move.
