Welcome January 2018

Dear Parents and carers,

I cannot believe that two weeks have passed already.   I would like to thank you all for making me so welcome.

Thank you also, to all those of you who came along to the meeting on Tuesday evening.   It was good to meet you all and to hear so many positive suggestions.   For those of you unable to attend, my key message is, please come and talk to me with your ideas, worries or concerns.   If I don't know what you are thinking, then I can't make things change.

I also gave a little background about myself, which you might want to know.   I have been teaching for 31 years and I have been the Headteacher of Kneesall C of E Primary School for 18 of those years. I am a Local Leader of Education and carry out support work for the Local Authority, Trent Valley Teaching School's Alliance and the Diocese.   Although, I think I may not find the time to do much of this at the moment!

I am a great believer in collaborative work and I am passionate about small schools.   They are very, very special places, which is why I am thrilled to be the Executive Headteacher of St Mary's and Kneesall.

One of the suggestions which came from the meeting was that we should form a Friends of St Mary's group.   I would, therefore, like to invite you to attend a meeting on the 6th February at 6pm at St Mary's School, where we can talk about the things we want to do and how we can make them happen.

I understand that the dates for the year have not all been set, as Mrs Monks had kindly left some freedom for the new Headteacher to do this.   I know how important it is to make plans for childcare or time off for events, so we have tried to plan for the rest of the year.   However, please remember things can change due to unforeseen circumstances, such as pouring rain on Sports Day, or as in the other day, at a club, a provider being ill!

Our first INSET Day is on Monday 12th February, where we are having a declutter!!   So, if you see the skips, you'll know what's going on.   You will also be asked in the future, to bring along a paint brush or trowel, as I don't believe in spending a penny on things we can all do ourselves.   (Except I'm not very good at gardening - but I will make cups of tea!!)

So, in the past two weeks, we have already had such exciting events.   Young Voices was a huge success. The children were fantastic!   To perform in such a place with exceptional professionals is such an opportunity and I am thrilled that the children and parents enjoyed it so much.   I know how hard it is to prepare the children for Young Voices and I want to congratulate Miss Stevenson on a job 'Well Done'.   I would also like to thank Miss Parkin, Mrs Wells and Mrs Purchase for their contribution in making this event such a success.

We then had the Sports Hall Athletics.   We came second and Mr Wathall said the children were excellent ambassadors of the school and such 'good sports' in the widest sense of the word.   Although we came second we have qualified to go forward to the Newark and Sherwood District Finals. Well done to all the team and well done to Mr Wathall and many thanks to all the parents who came along and supported us.

I do hope that you will come and see me and bring your ideas.   At the moment, I try to be at both schools on Monday and Friday. Thursday is a flexible day because there seems to be lots of training etc on Thursday.  I am trying to always be at St Mary's for the whole day on Tuesday, so please do drop in.

Kind regards

Sue Ilett-Coupe

Executive Head Teacher
