December 2018

Message from Mrs Coupe

I can't believe we are almost at the end of December.  It has been such a lovely term, with so many exciting events.

I have so enjoyed all the Christmas activities and productions.  I am sure you were all very proud parents.

I have to admit that I feel somewhat like the Vicar of Dibley, so many Christmas dinners!!

May I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and we'll see you in 2019!

The end of term marks the end of an era, with the retirement of Mrs Booth, after over 20 years as part of the St Mary's family.  She must have lost count of the number of children she has supported over the years, but, knowing Mrs. Booth, she will remember every one.  Although much of her time has been spent in Upper Key Stage 2 recently, she has worked alongside children of all ages, where her gentle manner and encouragement have combined with a clear talent for teaching.

Chris, you have been incredible. Our heartfelt thanks for all that you have done and very best wishes for your future.  We are so glad you will be coming in to hear readers in the New Year… can't escape that easily!

Update from our Friends of St Mary's

The Friends Group have been busy in the Autumn term with lots of exciting events which have taken place for our children, including:

  • Our first film night where we watched Peter Rabbit which was a huge success. We raised £131. As this was so popular, a second film night was arranged for a Christmas theme where the children watched Arthur Christmas, this raised £156.05.
  • A big thanks to parents who took time out to help on the Christmas Stall at the Edwinstowe Light Switch On and the craft and gift making for the items which were sold on the stall, this raised £244.05.
  • The Christmas design cards and gifts by the children raised £72.29.
  • Thanks to all the children who were busy doing good deeds to raise money in their Smarties tubes this raised £276.31. £20 has been donated to each class by the Friends Group for wet play games from these donations.
  • The Christmas pantomime which was also funded by the Friends Group, was a huge success. The children absolutely loved It, so much so, we are planning to book it again for next year!

The total amount raised since the Friends Group has been formed is £3141.77, which is amazing.  A huge thanks to all parents who have been involved in events and contributed, it is much appreciated.

Any new volunteers are always welcome to help out, even for one event - any help would assist and help massively.

We have also got vacancies to be filled, which are the Secretary and Vice Chair position.  If anyone would like to volunteer for this, please provide your name to the office so that this can be taken to the next AGM meeting in the New Year.  Thank you to Clare Clayton and Rachel Souter for their involvement and hard work.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Thank you again for your support.
