First ever edition!

Hello and welcome to the first ever edition of the St Marys School Council newsletter.

We are a new council and will remain in post for the next 12 months.  We were all very honoured to have been elected by our peers and will do our very best to represent the school.

Our first job was to develop a "Constitution" ( or set of rules we will

follow!!!) and in it we agreed that  our

purpose is to

"allow the pupils at our school to have a voice, to help the school and community to be a better place, to develop our own

participation and enjoyment in school

activities and to raise funds for the school and charitable causes"

We hope that you will all help us to achieve this by giving us your thoughts and

suggestions and supporting our events.

We have a new addition to our notice board, a suggestions box.  We have already had some great ideas but please keep using this box as a way to get your comments to us.

Thank you, Your School Council.

Visit from Councillor Brooks by Isaac Littlewood.

On Thursday 22nd October Councillor Celia Brooks of the Edwinstowe Parish Council had a meeting with the school council members regarding the proposed new playground on 4th Avenue.  We were asked for our ideas on what we thought would make a really good playground. After a lot of discussion we all gave our suggestions and the most popular one was a climbing frame.  Councillor Brooks thanked us for our help and input.  Hopefully we will be able to use the new playground soon.

It was really useful to meet a real life councillor and it gave us some useful information on what a council meeting should be like. Councillor Brooks also found the meeting very useful and is going to arrange for us to visit the Parish Council when it is in session.

Children In Need Day:  Thank you all for supporting our events last Friday on Children In Need Day.  You all looked great with your mad hair and crazy ties on!  Well done to Mrs Puchase for winning the "Guess the Weight of the Cake" competition - we hope you enjoyed it.

We raised in total over £228.  Thank you.  Our next fund raising event will be in March for Comic Relief.

Joke of the Day:

The past, the present and the future walked into a bar.  It was all very tense!

Why to giraffes have such long necks?  Because they have such smelly feet-phewww!!!

Christmas will soon be here

and we will be talking to Mrs Monks over the next few days on how we can all be involved in decorating the schools Christmas Tree.  We have a few ideas ready and will let you know the finer details over the next week.

We also have ideas for a new Christmas appeal this year so please be patient with us while we try to sort this out.  Thank you.

for  your suggestions in the suggestion box.  We have received some really good ideas such as:

Can we have another school pet?

Music Club?

Fencing Club?

Dodge Ball Club for Class 4?

Do more on charity work.

Please keep you ideas coming.

We will help if we can.
